Institute of Environmental Science & Engineering Pte Ltd (IESE) was created as a centre of research excellence in environmental technology (ET), under the Nanyang Technological University. With its corporatisation, it is now structured as a leading-edge technology organisation that provides value-added research and commercialization services in ET.IESE’s research capability is built on four technology platforms:
- Clean Energy,
- Marine & Resource Recovery,
- Water & Membrane, and
- Environmental Biotechnology.
The business activities include technology licensing / commercialisation, R&D, environmental process design/engineering, environmental specialist consultancy, process modeling/simulation, feasibility/treatability studies as well as technology-related conferences.
The GEF-UNDP-IMO GloBallast Partnerships Programme aims to assist developing countries to reduce the transfer of harmful organisms and pathogens in ships’ ballast water. This global programme, executed by the International Martitime Organization (IMO) is working through 14 developing sub-regions and includes over 70 participating countries. The Programme focuses on capacity building, legal, policy and institutional reforms as well as technological solutions and aims to forge a global partnership among member States, NGOs and private sector to address marine biosecurity issues.

Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA)
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) was established on 2 February 1996, with the mission to develop Singapore as a premier global hub port and international maritime centre (IMC), and to advance and safeguard Singapore’s strategic maritime interests. It is the driving force behind Singapore’s port and maritime development, taking on the roles of Port Authority, Port Regulator, Port Planner, IMC Champion, and National Maritime Representative. The MPA partners the industry and other agencies to enhance safety, security and environmental protection in our port waters, facilitate port operations and growth, expand the cluster of maritime ancillary services, and promote maritime R&D and manpower development.
Tropical Marine Science Institute (TMSI)
TMSI is a research institute within the National University of Singapore. The institute conducts multi-disciplinary research in tropical marine science, encompassing a wide spectrum of areas such as Marine Environmental Management, Marine Information Technology, Biotechnology, Mariculture, Underwater Remote Sensing and Oceanography. Through active collaboration with academic, government and industrial sectors, TMSI plays a strong role in promoting integrated science research and development, and marine science education.
